Wyoming/Idaho

Baby it’s COLD outside!

If you haven’t visited the Grand Teton area here’s your sign. Jackson Hole is a picturesque valley located in the state of Wyoming. It is surrounded by breathtaking mountain ranges, including the iconic Grand Teton Range. Jackson Hole is known for its stunning natural beauty, outdoor recreational opportunities, and charming western town atmosphere.  I headed out this way because my dear friend recently moved to Victor, Idaho.  Despite its small size, Victor offers a charming and welcoming atmosphere, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.  It is so close to the Grand Teton Range and Yellowstone National Park, which makes it very appealing.

In Victor you are about an hour drive from the airport. But it is through the mountains and absolutely beautiful.  Not to mention in the winter you have snow for days.  We couldn’t wait to get on the mountain and get some skiing in.  We stayed at my friends home in the Bronze Buffalo Ranch.  This community is top notch. It has everything you could want or need at your fingertips,  golf course, restaurant, lodge, private homes, stables, tennis courts, pool, and even horse drawn sleigh rides in the winter.

Being so close from there we spent one day skiing a the Grand Targhee Resort, about 40 mins away from the house.  Grand Targhee offers a variety of terrain suitable for all skill levels. With over 2,500 acres (1,012 hectares) of skiable terrain, visitors can enjoy everything from gentle beginner slopes to challenging expert runs. The resort has a good balance of groomed trails and ungroomed powder fields, providing options for both those who prefer cruising down well-maintained slopes and those seeking off-piste adventures.

In addition to downhill skiing and snowboarding, Grand Targhee also offers opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The resort has over 15 kilometers (9 miles) of groomed cross-country trails that wind through scenic meadows and forests. It’s a great way to explore the winter wonderland at a more relaxed pace.

When we weren’t on the slopes we snuggled up by the fire played games, did puzzles, had a yummy dinner at The Bronze Buffalo Grill and took a sleigh ride.  The perfect combination in a winter wonderland. I can’t wait to go back in the summer!

On our last night in the area we thought we would mix it up a bit and stay down in Jackson Hole for a night.   We got a room a the Rustic Inn Creekside, a charming spot with numerous amenities to accommodate your stay and walking distance to center of town.  Which you need to make your way over there explore all the shops and have and entertaining night full of fun, dancing, and music.  Be sure to eat at Local Restaurant and Bar if you get hungry and The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar next door is a must visit.  You will dance the night away to live great music surrounded by incredible people.

Addendum from Jackson Hole visit Dec 7-11, 2023

With another wonderful trip to Jackson Hole in the books we have some great spots to add and tell you about!  This time around we skied at Jackson Hole.  The resort features a variety of runs that cater to all skill levels, from beginner to expert, with more than half of its trails rated as expert. Jackson Hole has 133 named trails spread across 2,500 acres of skiable terrain. It also offers backcountry skiing opportunities for those looking for an adventurous off-piste experience.  We loved this mountain it was beautiful and amazing and not super crowed as we got out there on the first weekend of the season!  Some wonderful spots to stop into while you are over at that mountain listed here.

The Handle Bar – This bar is located at the base of the mountain. Ski in/out type spot.  They have great food and drink to replenish while taking a quick break from the slopes.  They also make their own fireball and it is AMAZING and will warm you right up!

The Mangy Moose – Located just down a bit near the ice rink. Its a more lively, eclectic vibe watering hole. But a spot you don’t want to miss. Plus they often have live music!

Corsa – This cozy Italian spot is to die for.  The staff is on point.  The food is remarkable and your view is the slopes. Loved it! Make sure to get the Octopus shots for the table and you have to try the Whipped Ricotta. BOOM DONE!

Persephone – If your looking for a yummy spot to grab coffee and breakfast stop in here.  It a stunning little shop and has all the tasty treats.

Lastly to add for this trip if you want a fabulous meal. Dip into the basement of The Million Dollar Cowboy.  They have a Steakhouse restaurant down there that will knock your socks off.  So much food!  It’s cozy and a bit moody which I like.
