Everson, WA

July 14-17, 2022

Nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range, Everson Washington has a welcoming community that is surrounded by nature’s beauty.

Everson is located about 20 miles northeast of Bellingham, the largest city in Whatcom County. It is also approximately 10 miles south of the Canadian border.  While Everson may be a small town, it offers several attractions and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. Nooksack River runs through the city, providing opportunities for fishing and outdoor activities. Additionally, nearby Mount Baker offers opportunities for hiking, skiing, and other outdoor adventures.  Washington is big on fishing we made sure to fit that in along with some wine tasting at local wineries and sightseeing throughout the area.  The Canadian border is right there, so be careful you don’t get in the wrong lane like we did.

The waters surrounding the San Juan Islands are teeming with a variety of fish species, making it a prime fishing destination.  It’s important to note that fishing regulations are in place to protect fish populations and ensure sustainable fishing practices. Make sure to check the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife website or consult with local authorities to stay updated on current fishing regulations, including catch limits, size restrictions, and seasons.  One of the highlights of fishing near the San Juan Islands is the stunning natural beauty that surrounds you. The islands offer breathtaking views of rugged coastlines, lush forests, and abundant wildlife. It’s not uncommon to spot seals, sea lions, eagles, and even whales while out on the water.

After long day of fishing you are going to need lunch.  We stopped at Downriggers for some food, drinks, views and my first oyster. (If you going to have one, this is the place!)  When you are done go explore the heart of Friday Harbor.  It’s picturesque downtown area, which features historic buildings, quaint shops, art galleries, restaurants, and cafes. Visitors can explore the charming streets on foot or rent bicycles to get around.  Friday Harbor’s small-town charm, stunning natural surroundings, and range of activities make it an appealing destination for visitors seeking relaxation, outdoor adventures, and a taste of island life.  This was just the most fantastic day with friends on the water, I highly recommend!
