Lake Powell

July 13-16, 2023

Such an incredible place that is way more massive then I was expecting!

Lake Powell is a magnificent reservoir located in the southwestern United States, spanning the border between Utah and Arizona. It was created by the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River, which was completed in 1966. With its stunning blue waters, towering red rock cliffs, and countless recreational opportunities, Lake Powell has become a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.  Lake Powell is the second-largest man-made reservoir in the United States, with a shoreline that stretches over 1,960 miles (3,150 kilometers). The lake covers an area of approximately 161,390 acres (65,310 hectares) when it is full. Its unique geography consists of narrow canyons, towering sandstone cliffs, and hidden coves.

One of the most popular ways to experience Lake Powell is by renting a houseboat. These floating homes offer a unique opportunity to explore the lake at your own pace while enjoying all the comforts of home. Houseboats come in various sizes and can accommodate families or large groups.  Lake Powell is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy activities such as boating, jet skiing, water skiing, wakeboarding, kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing. The calm waters and vast expanse of the lake provide ample space for various recreational pursuits.  While there you can also explore Rainbow Bridge National Monument, hike and explore Antelope Canyon, search out some native wildlife including bighorn sheep, deer, coyotes, and various bird species or take a scenic drive to numerous popular viewpoints.

If you aren’t driving into lake Powell the easiest way is to fly into Page, AZ.  There are usually 2 flights in and out per day on a smaller plane.  From there you set up transportation to Antelope Point Marina, its about a 20 min drive.  Once you are at the Marina they will help you to your boat.  If you do drive over there is ample parking there and a nice camp ground if you have and RV with you and want to camp for a few days.  If you don’t happen to have your own houseboat and water toys. The marina has everything for you to rent but you probably want to look into that about 1 year in advance.  They have all different levels of rentals price wise to fit any number of budgets.

Once you are all set and packed up and on your boat let the week or however long you have of fun and relaxation begin.  From afternoon boat rides, to early morning wake board sessions on the glassy water, paddle boarding around the shores of your camp, jet skiing and fishing you will defiantly find something to do. Even just sitting back and taking in the view and reading a book.  This was my first time out on Lake Powell and I can say the kids and I had a fantastic time and made so many incredible memories with some wonderful friends that we will never forget.  Incredibly grateful!

Overall, Lake Powell offers endless opportunities for adventure, relaxation, and exploration. Along with endless adventures and unforgettable memories.
