“It’s a whole other world when you come up over that mountain ridge.” – ME
Heber City is a charming city, situated in the picturesque Heber Valley, it is surrounded by stunning mountain ranges, including the Wasatch Mountains and the Uinta Mountains. To get there you by plane you fly into Salt Lake City. I was very surprised by SLC. It was not at all what I was expecting. Sort of reminded me of flying into Vegas, very flat and dry. But once you pass through the mountain, the most beautiful valley awaits you! This place is your outdoor playground with every activity you can think of year round. In the warmer months, the nearby mountains offer opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, camping, and rock climbing. The Provo River is perfect for fishing and river rafting, while the Deer Creek and Jordanelle Reservoirs are popular for boating, water skiing, and paddle boarding. In the Winter, Heber City is located near several world-class ski resorts. Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort, and Sundance Mountain Resort are all within easy reach. These resorts offer excellent skiing and snowboarding terrain during the winter months.
When we visit we are lucky enough to stay with some friends in the Red Ledges Community, this community is top notch. The beauty and ammenites here are like staying in a 5 star resort setting. The homes are designed to blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings. The community features a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, which has received numerous accolades for its design and playability. Other amenities include a clubhouse with dining options, a fitness center, swimming pools, tennis courts, hiking and biking trails, equestrian facilities, and a private ski lounge.
The nearby and surrounding mountains provide a plethora of hiking trails and chance to see wild life. The rivers are great for fishing and lazy days on the water by boat or raft. There is horseback riding and golfing easily available. Some other local attractions include the Heber Valley Railroad and The Homestead Crater, a unique geothermal spring where visitors can swim, snorkel, or scuba dive in a natural hot spring.
Of course since you are just a short beautiful drive of about 30 mins to Park City you can take in all it has to offer as well. From the mountain activates to the shops and restaurants, and if you’re lucky you might catch a street fair full of so many amazing treasures and treats. My favorite shop is Burns Hat Shop they have a rich history dating back to 1886 when it was established by Samuel Burns. It is one of the oldest continuously operating businesses in Park City and has become a beloved institution in the community. They supplied all the hats for the famous show “Yellowstone.” They specialize in high-quality, handcrafted hats made from premium materials such as fur felt, straw, and wool. Whether you’re looking for a classic cowboy hat, a stylish fedora, or a trendy wide-brimmed hat, you’re likely to find the perfect fit at Burns Hat Shop. If you’re a hat enthusiast, a fashion-conscious individual, or simply looking for a unique souvenir from Park City, Burns Hat Shop is a must-visit destination.
If you are up that area another very cool thing to go see is the Bonneville Salt Flats, they are a mesmerizing natural wonder, about an hour and half drive from SLC. They cover an area of about 46 square miles (120 square kilometers) and are part of the Great Salt Lake Desert. The surface of the Salt Flats is covered with a thick layer of white salt crust, which gives it a stunning and otherworldly appearance. The crust is made up of various salts, including sodium chloride (table salt), potassium chloride, and magnesium chloride. The Salt Flats are famous for their flat and expansive surface, making them an ideal location for land speed record attempts. Many people also enjoy taking photographs against the stark white backdrop or capturing stunning sunset views. Overall, they offer a unique and surreal experience, with their vast expanse of white salt crust stretching as far as the eye can see.
