Are you not ENTERTAINED?!?
Rome is massive! It took us a bit to get our bearings here. There is so much to see. It’s important to plan ahead to get the most out of your time here. I wish we had more time.
In order to get in as much as we could we booked a ticket on a hop on/off bus ride. First stop Trevi Fountain, you know we threw a coin in hopes to one day return to Rome. We wandered over to the Spanish Steps that sit between the Piazza di Spagna and front of the Trinita dei Monti church. To this day they are quite the meeting spot for people from all over. We went into the Pantheon, the best preserved Ancient Roman monument.
The next day we went to see The Colosseum, the The Roman Forum and the Vatican. All impressive landmarks! The Colosseum was our favorite place to see. Slaves and prisoners of war were forced battle to the death here. Sometimes against each other and sometimes against beasts. Amazing how it still stands today. You could almost feel the energy from the roar of the crowds that were once in the stands.
The Roman Forum is in the center of Rome. It is rectangle and surrounded by ruins of several important ancient buildings. After wars, Generals would return with a parade of animals, booty, and prisoners. In a precession they would run the length of the forum to dedicate their victory to the King of Gods and show all the people their victorious return.
The Vatican is the one place that had a very long line to enter. We decided to grab a drink and shop a bit before having to wait for entry. We found the most beautiful rosaries in a small shop near by. Such a special souvenir to take home and have forever. We proceeded back to the line and waited our turn to enter into this very holy place made with so much love. It was exquisite and intricate it almost felt like we shouldn’t be in there at all. But what a blessing to be able to see it with our own eyes.
