And we’re back!
This trip to Kauai we stayed in a different area which I didn’t think I would really like. However, I ended up really enjoying it. We stayed in Kapa’a at the Pono Kai Resort. This resort is your basic timeshare like resort. It is nice but not spectacular. However, it is right on the water. Close to a beach area, has a boardwalk for morning walks along the water and is centrally located to get to wherever you want to go. If you are a early riser there are some stunning sunrises from this location.
We did more adventurous things this trip. We got some exploring in, a luau, hiking, and fishing. Kauai has so much to offer there is always something to do. For the luau was grabbed tickets to the Lu’au Kalamaku in Lihue. This luau is a great show with buffet style food and drinks and venders to shop around while you wait for the show to start. Plus it is on a covered patio so you are safe from the rain when it comes.
There are a number of hikes you can do in Kauai for all levels and ages. We started out easy with the Ho’opi’i Falls Trail, its about a mile not bad but can get slippery. Then later in the week the person I went with did probably one the hardest trails there, called Powerline Trail. It is 14 miles long and difficult as it is no longer maintained and fully over grown. But for some that is part of the appeal. Next time I think we might try Na Pali Coast – Kalaulau Trail. However, this takes more planning as you need a permit to hike past the falls even if you are not camping. This is a 22 mile round trip hike.
If you want to check out that area of coastline with out hiking it. There are a number of boat charters you can take. This trip we went with Napali Coast Tours, a smaller boat that picked us up out of Hanalei. Which was so nice, not nearly as long as some other charters only being 2 hours long and a much smaller group max 18 people. Much more my vibe!
This trip we also went fishing with Blue Water Fishing. They are a small family team that picked us up right next to our resort at Waikea Boat Ramp. They were phenomenal! Probably the best fishing team I have ever gone out with. They were fun, knew their stuff and excited to get some fish with you doing as much work as you like. We brought home 3 BIG Blue Fin Tuna. I will defiantly go out with this group again on another trip.
